The power of Visual Novels

Before we begin… I’ve decided to write this post and share my story with the gaming community after seeing and purchasing this amazing game bundle on Itch.io. These eleven developers, together, already helped to raise almost 50k dollars in five days for The Okra Project, and, with 15 more days ahead, I’m sure they’ll help them even more. Contribute too! All of the money … Read More The power of Visual Novels

About my characters and heritage, and the fires in Brazil

If you’ve read the latest chapters of my superhero book, you already met the mysterious “friend” my main character, Roberto, tries to hide. Rob is a druid, from an old tribe of native Brazilians from Amazon and, as you’ll discover today, he has someone close to him. This someone’s name is “Anhangá” and he was based on one of the most terrifying and yet … Read More About my characters and heritage, and the fires in Brazil

On what makes writing so emotionally draining.

The connections we create with our characters and with the worlds we build are exactly what makes writing so exhausting, so emotionally draining. And also the reason, I reckon, why we’re so protective of our work.

Rambling: last month, I lost a friend.

And it wasn’t just any friend. It was a friend I thought I’d carry for life, through this hard, filled-of-sorrow moment I’m passing through to the pink-colored, lime-and-lilies-scented moments that are waiting for me. It was a friend who co-wrote a book with me… a book which will never be published, even though it’s completed, edited and ready, with cover and half-finished marketing material. … Read More Rambling: last month, I lost a friend.

Read More Inaugurando: Histórias Curtas.

About writing in another language—and how it helped to improve my Native one.

You see, ignoring the fact English has Anglo Saxon roots, while Portuguese has Latin roots, like French and Spanish—and ignoring also they have completely different structures and grammar rules and slang words and idiomatic expressions and etc—when writing in another language, you have also to consider your readers, your characters, the place they live in and, mainly, their language.

My dad asked me once ‘are you ready to give up being a writer?’ And this turned out to be one of the best advice I’ve ever received.

I have 3 siblings: a sister and two brothers, all of them are older than me. There’s a 12, 9 and 7 years gap between each of them and me, so I was basically raised with only one of them, the 3rd on the ‘line’… Still, I have a great relationship with all my siblings and my whole life I’ve heard stories about them … Read More My dad asked me once ‘are you ready to give up being a writer?’ And this turned out to be one of the best advice I’ve ever received.

Unpile those building blocks! Ask yourself: am I really writing to make a difference?

Hello, you! I was MIA for some time, I know — but there’s a reason behind that. I was, and still am, struggling between what I think is best for me and what I think is best for my so-called “Future” (taking care of Mom and Dad included). As a result, everything feels a whole lot more oppressive and scary than they should… And … Read More Unpile those building blocks! Ask yourself: am I really writing to make a difference?

LitBite: A class of Tai-chi-chuan.

‘Lit Bite’ is a collection of nano-texts that may or may not have an ending. For me, it represents a reflexive moment, a time to think about Writing and about my life in the city, with all the great and terrible feelings it brings me. They are short, small scenes with memories or imagined situations. What do you think? Wanna join me in this adventure? … Read More LitBite: A class of Tai-chi-chuan.
